About The Schendel Family
Sunday, November 2nd 2008, 20:44 (GMT+1)
Dear Visitor, Family Member, Far Relative or Genealogist,
I am Tristan Schendel, 15 years old.
I'm son of Mark Paul Schendel and Astrid Lokman-Schendel. Mark Schendel is American and the schendel family line is originated from former Germany, which is now Poland. The Schendel Family has a Manthei branch due to a marriage around 1905. The Lokman side of the family however is Dutch. The Lokmans have alot of different names jumping in and out of the family line. Some of the bigger names are: Wildeboer and Doldersum (see link to their tree below).
Seeing the fact that the schendel family is very, very big, it has and still is, been taking alot of efford to collect, research, check and publish all the info. And net again the Dutch side of the family is not big, it does go very far back in time and is very interesting.
Enjoy this site and all it's info. Additional documents, info, names and branches will be added reguraly.
Regards,
Tristan Schendel,
The Netherlands
"Many people, such as the Schendel family, adopted the name of their feudal occupation as their surname. However, an occupational name did not become a hereditary surname until the office or type of employment became hereditary. The surname Schendel was an occupational name for a roofer. The name Schendel is derived from the Old German word schindel, which means shingle or small pebbles." -HouseOfNames.com
Legend:
Posen = Posen- Former Germany, Poland. Posen is German/Polish for Prussia twp = TownShip (as in; Greenwood twp, which becomes Greenwood township)
